Thomas Kirwan qualified with an Architectural Technology Certificate from IT Carlow, in 2000, and has over 25 years experience in the architectural and construction industry across a broad range of sectors, as an Architectural Technician. Prior to his appointment with E Project Chartered Architects Tom worked on commercial properties including car showrooms, large retail units and high rise residential schemes during his time at timber frame manufacturer, Century Homes,
Thomas joined EPCA in 2005 and has been instrumental in the preparation of planning, tender and construction documentation for a large range of residential, educational and commercial / retail schemes, most notably ‘The Bridge’ residential and retail scheme, Dungarvan, which was nominated for a Green Award, and the TVM Office and Workship Building which won a Green Award.
Other notable projects include a large medium density residential scheme at Farranlea Road, Cork, the new Harbour Master Building at Dunmore East, the redevelopment of the former 1940’s Cinema at Ormonde Sq., Dungarvan, a number of primary and post primary School extension projects, the new Brian Injury Residential Care Unit, Waterford and a new social and affordable housing scheme in Portlaoise for Laois Co. Co.
Private dwellings remain a key component of the Practice’s client base and Thomas’ experience included a bespoke Farmyard passive house, the high end Cliff Beach House, Ardmore and a large number of new ‘A’ Rated dwellings.
As Senior Architectural Technician with the practice Thomas is enhancing the Practice’s knowledge of energy efficient buildings, incorporating green design principles and promoting the Practice’s ethos for environmentally friendly design solutions incorporating best practice or Passive House principles.
