Camberley, Surrey
The site is located to the immediate north of the M3 Motorway within a private wooded parkland estate which had been settled over time with high end private dwellings. The existing dwelling on the site was roofless and derelict. An application was submitted to Surrey Council for the replacement of the dwelling with a new two storey over ground apartment scheme, with part lower ground accommodation, to provide 10 # 2 bed apartments of 80sq.m to 92sq.m.
The area and shape of the site allowed for a linear building, with the two storeys over ground being similar to other dwellings in the estate. The houses directly opposite are three storeys and significantly elevated above the road due to the topography. The flat roof of the apartment building ensured that the height of the proposed building would have no impact on their views and sun path from the south.
The north to south sloping topography of the site allowed for 2 # Garden Apartments to the south, with the upper Ground and First Floor plans providing 4 apartments per level, served by a shared stair and lift lobby. The north facing upper ground apartments opened onto private paved terrace areas. The south facing over ground units have large cantilevered balconies.
The façade of the building was clad in vertical Siberian larch boarding to the south and return ends. The north façade, facing the private road proposed featured patinated coreten steel cladding panels providing a contemporary aesthetic to the tree framed scheme.
The project was completed in 2024.
